Rob calls for redoubling of effort to educate youth on dangers of knives
Following the stabbing of a 17-year-old at the Face Bar in Reading at the weekend, Rob said:
“I was very sad indeed to hear of the murder of Jordan Malutshi in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is a tragedy that such a young life has been taken and my condolences go to his family and friends.
“We must redouble our efforts to educate young people about the danger of carrying knives; many think that they are there for self defence and it too often ends in tragedy. I believe that anyone caught carrying a knife should be punished severely to ensure there is proper deterrence. This should also be bolstered by longer sentences for murderers and life actually meaning life in more cases.
“I think it is important that nightclubs in particular do thorough searches of customers on entry and metal arches are a regular feature of entering clubs across Reading – even if the arches have to be rotated amongst a number of clubs where trouble is perhaps more prevalent.”
