Rob serves up a meeting at Caversham Park Tennis Club

Tuesday, 24 January, 2012

Rob paid a visit to Caversham Park Tennis Club last Friday to take a look at its new facilities and see how the game is faring in the local area.

The club, which was formed in 1969, boasts some of the best facilities in the local area at its Clayfield Copse home, including six brand new, floodlit, outdoor tennis courts.

During the visit, Rob met with Gary Drake, Director of Coaching, and Jo-Anne Downing, the LTA’s Development Manager. After a quick knock-up out on court and a tour of the impressive new facilities, Rob discussed the future of grass-roots tennis with the pair.

Rob commented: “With the Australian Open, the first major tennis championship in the calendar, well under way, it’s a good time to discuss the future of grass-roots tennis in my constituency and to hear about the LTA’s investment.

“It is great to see that there are such fantastic facilities and coaching available in Reading East to help in the search for Britain’s next Andy Murray or Virginia Wade. Without the appropriate focus on the grass-roots level, it is easy for certain sports to become an elitist hobby. In such an important year for British Sport, it is exciting to see Caversham Park Tennis Club promoting accessible sport in our local community.”

Caversham Park Tennis Club welcomes players of all standards and offers comprehensive training and coaching through Gary Drake Tennis Coaching. The club is always on the lookout for new members, but tennis enthusiasts don’t have to become a member to use the courts as they can “pay and play” when there is an available court.
