Reading East Conservative Association (RECA) holds regular social events for members and supporters. Our next event is a dinner with speaker Richard Benyon MP at the Penta Hotel on March 15th.
Events are primarily focused at raising funds to campaign in the local elections and vary from supper evenings, dinners, curry nights, and buffets to pub quizzes, question time events and sporting fundraisers.
Most events have guest speakers, such as prominent Conservative MPs, Members of the House of Lords, MEPs and political commentators. In recent years we have had the pleasure of speakers such as David Cameron, Ann Widdecombe, Boris Johnson, Daniel Hannan, Francis Maude, Michael Howard, Theresa May, Jonathan Isaby, Therese Coffey, Damian Green, Iain Dale, Shailash Vara, Chris Grayling and David Lidington. We welcomed Minister for Culture Ed Vaizey MP to speak at our 2010 Christmas Dinner.
Events in 2011
In January we had a pub quiz evening at the Grosvenor in Caversham.
In February Rob Wilson spoke about education policy at a supper evening in St Andrew's Hall.
Our Spring Dinner was held in March at the Shehnai Suites on London Street with guest of honour Secretary of State Eric Pickles MP.
In June we were delighted to welcome Oliver Letwin MP, Minister of State at the Cabinet Office, to Reading for our Summer Dinner at the Prudential Ibis Club on Scours Lane.
In August the first MPs Challenge Cricket Match was held at Farley Hill Cricket Club, Farley Hill. Rob captained a Reading East Team against John Redwood MP's Wokingham eleven in a 20:20 cricket match. The weather was not good but the afternoon was excellent and despite losing the match everyone from Reading East enjoyed the event.
In September Des Swayne, PPS to the PM and MP for New Forest West, spoke at our Autumn Supper at the Hilton Hotel on Kennet Island.
In November we held an informal drinks evening with Dan Hannan MEP and hosted the Berkshire Dinner for Party Chairman Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.
In December Rob hosted a Christmas get together at the Salisbury Club in Reading with mulled wine and mince pies.
