Rob showed his support for local charity, The Lend & Play Toy Library, by going back to his childhood for a game of Subbuteo.
A football-mad Arsenal supporter, Rob was a huge fan of the iconic table-top game as a child, having been given a set by his parents as a Christmas present. Now, the Woodley-based charity has added a set to its range of toys that are available for hire.
Rob said: “I remember watching the ’71 FA Cup final when Arsenal beat Liverpool in extra time and became a fan from then on. When I played Subbuteo with my brothers I always had the red set of players.”
“Many parents simply can’t afford the latest toys children want,” added Rob. “Learning through play with the right equipment is incredibly important in a child’s development.”
Sarah Stuckey, chair of the Lend & Play Toy Library, added: “Rob’s copy of Subbuteo may have succumbed to time and over-excited play, but parents can now hire the game from us. Its just one of hundreds of toys, games and party equipment that we provide.”
Based in the Ambleside Centre, The Lend & Play Toy Library is a not-for-profit charity run and funded by volunteers. Members can join for £10 and hire toys for three weeks from as little as 50p. The charity also provides party toys for hire.
